Artist in the Free World

Hi. I love it when I actually inspire other artists to create. Lots of artists come by my booth if I am at a show, and lately I have such calls personally and a visitor of such who told me he was coming to see me for inspiration.
A fantastic musician, guitarist, and painter of realism. A perfectionist of sorts. Funny how some of us are
either care free with their art or so restricted with themselves and life ingeneral that they cannot get started
in creating something because they cannot become settled enough in their "thinking" and "planning" to actually create anything. But this is a unique case, such as I was when I first "broke out of my box" to create visual art, and I put my guitar down. This was a major awakening and mourning at the same time. When someone is so talented that they cannot seem to be satisfied with who they are playing with, but dont really want to join a major band and play world wide. My friend was playing with a band that went all over the country. (I wont embarris him with his identity). Evolving from one major artistic medium to another can be very tramatic, and if one is not careful it can become a tragically uncomfortable place to be if it is not recognized as a growing experience for sure. The reasons are not important as to why the change, but that the will is there to want to switch into something else. And not having a clue what to do, and coming from a very successful other artistic medium can be hard. My suggestion was to just start, just do anything in the new art field , but do it everyday alittle bit at a time. I told him 90 days. Do anything he wanted for 90 days as long as it is comfortable and freeing. Not too much "thinking" and "planning". I suggested a mixed media collage to get him away from his traditional "cat" paintings; which are fa nominal by the way. Very realistic oils.
Collecting different objects and things of eye catching appeal, and then to begin with the background, or blank canvas placing the items around it and to be free. Not too particular. And finish weather he liked or not. Just DO IT!!! So, for all you out there STUCK in your artistic ability to create something. Be free, make mixed media art collage. Or a mixed media sculpture. Who cares what it looks like, just do it. Start a process and a habit of creating art on a daily or semidaily basis and soon you will have something to look for ward to doing.
The music will come back. Actually, for me, the change started me doing more music later. I was fresher, and I had a much better attitude about my playing.
Good luck.
Karen
